I replaced a dying battery on my MSI laptop and it worked for a day, then wouldn’t turn on unless plugged in and immediately turned off if unplugged despite 2x brand new batteries and fully charged. I tried all above options but none worked until I tried this and it worked right away.

So far my solution was Power Options -> Change plan setting -> Change advance power settings -> processor power management -> system cooling policy -> Change battery from off to ON. This worked, my guess is the computer was reading as over heading and immediately shut down, now my comp will power up on its own and work with only battery. Fingers crossed its not a 1 day fix 🙂

In the CMD Shutdown.exe command, you need to have the /s parameter specified to shutdown (or /r to restart).If this is not specified – nothing happens.
